The HeartMate 3 LVAD includes a fully magnetically levitated centrifugal blood pump and is designed to supplement the pumping ability of the weakened heart’s left ventricle, which is responsible for pumping oxygen-rich blood from the lungs throughout the body.
Implantable LVADs are used mainly for people who are waiting for heart transplant (bridge to transplant) or as a long-term solution for people who can’t have heart transplant called destination therapy.
